Renters Insurance Does It Work

Renters insurance is a misunderstood subject which needs to be explained as there are many occasions where we rent equipment, marquis for a wedding, car or boat for instance; all of which could be damaged or even completely destroyed. This is often done on the understanding that the insurance for their house or car for example will cover any equipment that is rented to them.

One regular instance of this is where tenants to a rented property fully believe that if anything untoward happens that the landlord’s insurance will cover the eventuality. Although the landlord will carry insurance, which he must by law, the only requirement is for it to cover the building structure in the vent of fire or damage for example.

This insurance does not cover your personal possessions or liability and if you cannot you replace them immediately, out of pocket then you need renters insurance. This can be a bigger problem where any damage to the building is a result of your actions at which point any costs will be the responsibility of the tenants.

If that fact doesn’t convince you, renters insurance does have another useful aspect to it. If someone is hurt or injured while on the property you are renting, you may be legally responsible for that person's medical expenses, not mention attorney fees if there's a dispute. This means you are covered for that person's medical expenses, legal costs if they should decide to sue, and any damages they might be awarded.

Although some people are covered when they rent a car, this is not always the case so if your auto insurance doesn’t have this facility as part of the cover, you will need to arrange this yourself unless your credit card provides auto rental insurance cover. If you aren't covered under your own insurance or credit card then you could consider purchasing the collision damage waiver as it is a better option to pay about 7 to 13 dollars a day than 10,000 to 30,000 dollars to replace the rental car.

Only two areas of renters insurance has been covered here but it can be obtained for just about anything that you rent and it doesn’t matter if you are renting a motor home to a luxury yacht. Renters insurance provides a peace of mind and that has got to be worth a few dollars a day, whoever you are. The price for rental insurance will depend on many things but be aware that some locations are considered a higher risk and will call for a higher premium and how much deductible is standard will also have a bearing. Take the time to shop around a few different companies to get the best rates as these days most companies will reduce your premium considerably if you decide to pay a higher deductible.
